Owning and Sharing. Art collecting as an entrepreneurial and social responsibility. Launch of the discussion series with Dr Dirk Dobke & opening of the Griffelkunst autumn exhibition
On 3 December, the public discussion series ‘Owning and Sharing. Collecting Art as an Entrepreneurial and Social Undertaking’ begins on 3 December. It takes place as part of the seminar of the same name within the ‘Studium fundamentale’ programme, in which students examine art collecting as a cultural practice.
The guest speaker is Dr Dirk Dobke, Director of the Griffelkunst-Vereinigung Hamburg e. V. For more than 100 years, the association has been committed to making art collecting accessible to all. Through the selection of signed editions of contemporary printmaking, photography and object art, members not only gain direct insights into artistic creative processes, but also engage in conversation with one another through the unifying power of collecting. On the same evening, the Griffelkunst autumn exhibition will open.
The focus is on the social function of collecting. Rather than an exclusive ‘desire to possess’, the emphasis is on the ‘desire to share’: how does engagement become a driving force for cultural education and social dialogue? The Griffelkunst-Vereinigung exemplifies how art collecting can be democratised.
Save the date: On 14 January, Sonja Leidemann, Chair of the Werner Richard – Dr Carl Dörken Foundation, will be our guest speaker, discussing the social responsibility of collecting enterprises
The event is free of charge and open to anyone interested.
