Top support, very good practical relevance and great freedom of choice: UW/H achieves outstanding results in Germany's largest university ranking

Students have given the Bachelor's degree programmes Management (B. Sc.) and PPÖ - Politics, Philosophy and Economics (B. A.) at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) an above-average rating in the new CHE University Ranking published by ZEIT: The UW/H achieved outstanding results for the general study situation, supervision, teaching and practical programmes, equipment and the use of digital teaching elements, for example.

In almost all assessment criteria, the UW/H is in the top group, above the average of all universities that took part in the ranking. For example, students are extremely satisfied with the organisation of studies, the facilities and the individual focus. Excellent grades in the top group were also awarded for the special support at freshers, the small group sizes in courses, the very good accessibility of lecturers and the high practical relevance of the courses. In addition, the support for stays abroad, career entry and career planning was particularly honoured. Here, the UW/H always achieved at least 4.7 out of 5 possible stars. It also shines with a high research reputation, measured by high research funding per academic.

Further flexibility through the Bachelor of Choice model

"We are delighted with the excellent ratings from our students. Our didactic concept continues to bear fruit: Individual exchange, high practical relevance, small learning groups and a flexible study model with a high degree of freedom of choice ensure a high level of satisfaction. And we also want to ensure this with our new degree programmes: under the umbrella of the Bachelor of Choice model, we will be able to offer our students even more freedom of choice in the coming semester," says Prof. Dr Dirk Sauerland, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Society.

With the Bachelor of Choice model, students enrol on one of five degree programmes. In addition to Management and PPÖ, the Faculty will be offering three new degree programmes from the winter semester: "Economics, Politics and Law" (B. A.), "Social Data Science" (B. Sc.) and "Global Sustainability" (B. A.). Only after a joint orientation year, in which all freshers are taught the same relevant basics and given interdisciplinary insights into the faculty's subject areas, do students finally decide on one of the five Bachelor's degree programmes according to their personal interests.

The CHE University Ranking

With around 120,000 students surveyed, the CHE University Ranking has been the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of universities in the German-speaking world for 25 years. The complete ranking is now available digitally on HeyStudium at heystudium.de/ranking. New this year: The results of the student survey on the study situation in general are presented clearly using a 5-star scale. As before, the fact-based ranking results are assigned to three ranking groups (top, middle and bottom).

The ZEIT Study Guide 2023/24 is available from today for 11.95 euros in stores everywhere or at www.zeit.de/studienfuehrer.
