UW/H honours 29 students with a Germany Scholarship
Scholarship recipients from the Faculties of Health and Economics and Society meet their sponsors at the award ceremony.

Thanks to the support of numerous sponsors, a total of 29 students at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) will receive a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship in the summer semester of 2022. The scholarship recipients will receive 300 euros per month in recognition of their social commitment and personal achievements. They were now able to meet their sponsors in person for the first time at a celebratory meeting.
"A lively scholarship culture has characterised the UW/H since its inception. For us, every student counts: their potential, their motivation, their drive and their commitment. This is why, in addition to convincing grades, social commitment also plays a major role in the selection of scholarship holders," explains Prof Dr Martin Butzlaff, President of the UW/H.
The scholarship programme only works thanks to the support of the sponsors - companies, foundations and a large number of private individuals - whose commitment is not only financial, but also idealistic. Many of them have been supporting the Deutschlandstipendium programme at the UW/H for many years. This year, the University would like to thank: Peter Pohlmann, Christa Thoben (former Minister of Economics), Anita Pfeil, Klaus Rommel, Tillmann Neinhaus, Michael Berger, Hans Pechtel, Wittener Universitätsgesellschaft e. V., Volksbank Bochum Witten eG, Marga und Kurt Möllgaard-Stiftung, Sportstiftung NRW, Dr Werner Jackstädt-Stiftung, Dr Ausbüttel & Co. GmbH and Continentale Krankenversicherung a.G..
The Deutschlandstipendium creates scope for the scholarship holders to concentrate more on their studies or expand their voluntary work. Since 2011, the number of scholarship recipients at the UW/H has grown from five to 29.

Facts and figures about the Deutschlandstipendium:
- The Deutschlandstipendium was introduced in 2011 with the aim of supporting high-achieving and committed young people on their educational path and further developing the scholarship culture in Germany.
- A total of around 226 million euros has been donated since the scheme was launched. The number of scholarship recipients currently stands at more than 28,000, just over half of whom are women.
- The special feature of the Deutschlandstipendium is its funding model: the monthly funding amount of 300 euros is split. One half comes from private sponsors, the other half is subsidised by federal funds. The private share is raised by the universities.
