The digital transformation of healthcare
To become Europe’s leading and, at the same time, patient-centred health tech company – that is the goal of the two founders of the Wellster Digital Healthtech Group. One of these ambitious managers is UW/H graduate Dr Manuel Nothelfer, who completed his PhD in Witten in 2016 before founding the Munich-based start-up two years later alongside Nico Hribernik.
Together, they are creating digital solutions to make access to medical care easier for as many people as possible. Particularly when it comes to sensitive issues such as mental health problems, obesity or intimate health, shame and other barriers – such as long waiting times – often delay appropriate treatment. This is where the company’s concept comes in: the Wellster Healthtech Group operates several online platforms through which patients can receive medical care at any time and from the comfort of their own homes, for example via structured questionnaires or video consultations. The low-threshold, digital initial contact, together with the opportunity to open up in a familiar and safe environment without having to make the journey to a surgery, reduces social barriers.
Wellster’s business model integrates all relevant stakeholders in the healthcare system. At its heart lies the conviction that telemedicine can be an essential component of modern healthcare. It is not intended to replace the existing system, but rather to complement it effectively, thereby counteracting challenges such as the shortage of skilled staff and easing the burden on medical practices.
The company’s work is based on scientific standards. Its own research projects and a scientific advisory board ensure that all services are developed on an evidence-based basis and are continuously expanded.
