Development of a manual for rehabilitation facilities and funding bodies to implement diversity-sensitive care (DiversityKAT)

Project overview

The DiversityKAT project developed a manual to support rehabilitation facilities in Germany in delivering diversity-sensitive healthcare. For this purpose, the project team used a mixed-methods approach to identify suitable tools and potential implementation strategies. This included a literature review, surveys of rehabilitation facilities and the evaluation of available materials through focus groups and consultations with funding bodies.

The results indicate that diversity-sensitivity in care is both considered important and increasingly relevant in rehabilitation settings. However, various challenges impede its implementation, such as a lack of incentives, limited financial resources, and organisational difficulties. Support from funding bodies is essential. Steering groups, seminars, training courses and workshops can also facilitate implementation. In addition, the findings highlight a strong interest in a digital version of the manual, offering enhanced features and expanded content.
