When it comes to studying psychology in the Rhine-Ruhr region, the UW/H is one of the best addresses according to the latest CHE ranking by ZEIT. The university has been at the top of the CHE Ranking since its first participation in 2016. For its latest survey, the Centre for Higher Education Development once again evaluated over 300 universities and compared a wide range of quality features in twelve categories and 47 subcategories.

The Psychology Bachelor's programme at Witten/Herdecke University is among the top group in eight of the twelve main categories and 30 sub-categories. Regardless of whether it is the range of courses on offer and support during the degree programme, the general study situation or the topic of examinations - UW/H students awarded top marks almost everywhere. In the categories "Support from teaching staff" and "Career guidance programmes", the university is even among the top three universities nationwide. "We were therefore able to significantly improve our result compared to the 2019 survey," says Prof Dr Thomas Ostermann, Head of the School of Psychology and Psychotherapy. "We are also particularly pleased that the expansion of the range of courses on offer as an adaptation to the new licensing regulations is bearing fruit. We are also pursuing this path in the upcoming redesign of the Master's degree programme."

Digital teaching now represented in the ranking

Digital teaching elements were evaluated for the first time in the ranking. During the coronavirus pandemic, it was a didactic challenge for the UW/H to change its teaching concept, which is based on presence and collaboration in small seminars. "Even though we are continuing to work on expanding our digital and learning support services, personal contact in small groups remains at the heart of our brand. This quality will continue to be our top priority," says Robin Siegel, representative for teaching at the School of Psychology and Psychotherapy.

Since the summer semester of 2018, the Bachelor's degree programme in Psychology at Witten/Herdecke University has met the criteria of the seal of approval of the German Society for Psychology e. V. In addition, the degree programme has been determined by the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia to meet the professional requirements of Section 9 of the Psychotherapists Act and thus also meets the criteria of the licensing regulations for psychotherapists.

It will also be possible to join the Master's degree programme in accordance with the new licensing regulations in Witten from the winter semester 2023/24. The Master's degree programme in Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy is currently being evaluated by the Centre for Higher Education Development.
