Witten/Herdecke University (re)introduces the 9-euro ticket!
It has been abolished throughout Germany, but Witten/Herdecke University is reintroducing it: the 9-euro ticket as a job ticket for employees.

Everyone is talking about the Deutschlandticket, which is due to be launched nationwide on 1 May. The federal and state governments have agreed on a price of 49 euros for the offer. However, as local transport is a matter for the federal states, the German federal states are taking different paths when it comes to the concrete organisation and setting the ticket price. Witten/Herdecke University welcomes the Deutschlandticket and provides clarity: it is probably the first medium-sized company in Germany to enable its employees to use the Deutschlandticket as a job ticket for 9 euros. "With this offer, we want to support our employees in travelling in a climate-neutral and cost-effective way. Our mission is to contribute to a sustainable and just transformation of our society. The 9-euro ticket is a logical step in this direction," says Dr Dirk Jakobs, vice president for organisational development at UW/H.
As one of the largest employers in Witten, the university is making its employees an attractive offer with the 9-euro ticket and at the same time expanding its portfolio for the use and promotion of sustainable mobility. This includes free e-car sharing and e-cargo bikes, job bike leasing, covered bicycle parking spaces on campus and a mobile bicycle workshop.
However, UW/H not only pursues the goal of sustainable and fair action with regard to mobility, but also when it comes to recruiting and valuing its employees. "It is important to us to show our employees that we take their interests seriously by offering them such programmes," says University Chancellor Jan Peter Nonnenkamp. In view of high inflation and the associated rise in mobility and living costs, the 9-euro ticket also represents financial relief for all employees who use public transport to get to work.
