Eva Münster holds the Chair of General Practice Research in Vulnerable Populations. The chair is dedicated to interdisciplinary research and the transparent communication of scientific findings, particularly in previously underrepresented areas of general practice, internal medicine, public health, occupational medicine and social medicine.
Research
The focus is on two key areas:
1. Scientific examination of groups of people who are socially invisible or on the margins of public perception.
The aim is to present their realities of life in a scientifically sound manner and to strengthen their visibility in social discourse. There is a particular focus on aspects of health and illness and on the many barriers these groups encounter in accessing medical care. These include limited access to health services, structural discrimination in the health system, a lack of culturally sensitive or target group-specific services, and an overall lack of data on their health needs.
The groups of people include:
• Over-indebted citizens
• Young people
• Prisoners and prison staff
• Patients with severe multiple disabilities at medical care centres for people with disabilities (MZEBs)
• People with inadequate health insurance coverage
2. Intensive research into diseases and their risk factors that have received insufficient attention within the scientific community with regard to general medical care. The aim is to broaden understanding of their causes, effects and prevention options in general medicine and to bring this into the public debate.
Currently researched clinical pictures:
• Vitamin B6 deficiency
• Vitamin D deficiency
• Glaucoma diseases
• Addiction and dependency disorders
