Professor Lê showcases core issues in Strategic Management from a practice perspective, such as mandated change and other hot topics that require a new way of thinking about management.

Recently appointed Chair of Strategic Management at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, Prof. Dr. Jane Lê is a leading international expert on the new way of explaining strategy known as Strategy-as-Practice (SAP) which focuses on the activities of ‘strategizing’ beyond strategy as a tool or outcome. Lê studies strategizing in larger societal contexts and, hence, her research looks not only at individual organizations but also at inter-organizational practices in the face of ‘grand challenges’ such as energy security and climate change.

In her RMI Distinguished Lecture, Jane Lê will talk about “The power of strategizing: Explaining mandated change and other interesting organizational phenomena”. This is an opportunity for anyone interested in strategy and management to learn more about the SAP approach. Examples from Lê’s current research will illustrate with powerful conceptual and methodological devices how we can better explain some important issues such as how strategic change unfolds when it is externally mandated, e.g. by new regulation or political pressure.

Jane Lê received her Ph.D. in Management from Aston Business School in 2006. She taught at Aston until 2010 when she moved on to the University of Sydney and became an Associate Professor in 2017. Her work is published in top journals such as Organization Science, Organization Studies, Strategic Organization and British Journal of Management. She joined WHU in Germany as a full professor just a few months ago.

The Reinhard Mohn Institute is particularly glad to host this Distinguished Lecture by an influential and inspiring scholar whose work resonates extremely well with how strategy is taught and studied in Witten. Professor Lê's talk will be followed by an open discussion with the audience and some refreshments afterwards. The event is open to students, researchers, practitioners and anyone interested in new perspectives on strategy!
